The slab is cold either way; the question is what sits on it. Carpet over concrete traps moisture and grows that basement smell. A sealed coating plus an area rug where you want warmth gives you the comfort without the mildew, and you can pull the rug up and wash the floor under it.
Yes. The system is more abrasion-resistant than epoxy, so racks, benches, and treadmills sit on it without grinding through. For heavy free weights we recommend rubber mats at the drop zone, same as any floor, but everyday plates and equipment feet will not scar it.
